Irish Whiskey

The word "whiskey" is an Anglicisation of "uisce beatha/uisge beatha" a phrase from the Goidelic branch of languages (Irish, Scottish Gaelic and Manx) meaning "water of life".

Most Irish pot still whiskey is distilled three times, while Scotch whisky is usually distilled twice. Peat is rarely used in the malting process, so that Irish Whiskey has a smoother finish as opposed to the smoky, earthy overtones common to some Scotches. Although Scotland sustains approximately 90 distilleries, Ireland has only four.

For a whiskey to be considered "Irish Whiskey", it must be distilled and aged in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland for at least 3 years in wooden casks, and must derive its flavor from the yeast-fermented mash of cereal grains used in it's production.

Jameson 18 Year Old Limited Reserve is a well balanced whiskey with mellow, complex taste and lingering finale of wood, spice and toffee. A hand-picked selection of no fewer than three exquisitely poised whiskeys serving as the light, shade and foreground used to craft this unique blend.

Dutifully matured for no less than 18 years in a combination of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks, it's given a final finish in fresh fill American bourbon barrels. Since its debut in 2002, stocks of Jameson 18 Year Old Limited Reserve have been, as its name suggests, limited.

Nose: Aromatic oils with a touch of wood, spicy toffee.

Taste: Wonderfully mellow and smooth, a mouthful of complex flavours - fudge, toffee, spice, hints of wood and leather, vanilla and a gentle sherry nuttiness.

Finish: A long, lingering finish carries the theme of the wood, spice and toffee right through to the end.

Nose: Warm, spicy, assertively complex.

Taste: Sherry richness, nutty flavour, mild woody undertones.

Finish: Rich and lasting.

John Jameson created this triple distilled, smooth Irish whiskey in 1780, and the tradition continues to this day. 

Nose: Light floral fragrance, peppered with spicy wood and sweet notes.

Taste: Balanced spicy, nutty, and vanilla notes; hints of sweet sherry. Very smooth.


Bushmills Black Bush

Nose: Big, full, rich fruitcake aroma, intense Sherry sweetness developing into dried fruit/raisin notes.

Nose: Light and fruity with spicy aroma. Vanilla notes, developing into vanilla ice cream and creme brulee.

Palate: Gently warming, mouth-coating texture. A touch of honey sweetness.

Finish: Crisp and fresh with a touch of spice.

Bushmills 16 Year

Matured for 16 years or more in a combination of American bourbon barrels, Spanish Oloroso sherry butts and Port pipes. The unique maturation process imparts distinct notes of juicy fruits, nuts, and spice, as well as a hint of ruby redness. Bushmills Distillery is the oldest licensed distillery in the world and has been operating since 1608.

Nose: Big, robust. Treacle toffee and sweet spice

Palate: Praline, honey, full bodied. Carmaelised fruits, toasted nuts.

Finish: Deep. Jammed berries and dark chocolate.

Bushmills 21 Year

A rare Irish single malt aged a minimum of 19 years in Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon-seasoned casks, then transferred into Madeira casks for the final two years of maturation. This results in a whiskey of considerable depth that interweaves dried fruit flavors with spicy aromatic maltiness and subtle nutty toasted raisin notes.

Nose: Full and sweet. Soft spice, orange peel.

Palate: Luxurious satiny sensation, with an elegant sweet and dry interplay.

Finish: Intense. Liquorice and oak.

The benchmark Irish single malt, this has a far greater depth of flavour than standard Irish blends. Winner of the 'Best Irish Single Malt Whiskey in the World' at last year's World Whiskies Awards.  Bushmills Distillery is the oldest licensed distillery in the world and has been operating since 1608.
