June 23rd - Nick Sterling

Americana / Country

Nick Sterling on ReverbNation

Nick Sterling

Nick Sterling is a Singer/Songwriter and Purple Heart Veteran based in Central Texas. Like many Combat Veterans, transitioning to civilian life and finding his next mission was difficult for Nick. He strived for that sense of purpose that he had while serving his country. He found that purpose in songwriting and using his music to help his fellow Veterans. He began to use songwriting as a healing tool for himself and realized that it was positively affecting the other Veterans that heard it. He knew that Music was the mission he had been longing for. His Americana and Roots sound is a perfect fit for the diverse Texas Country music scene. His songs of loss, struggle and love feature strong vocals and honest lyrics that are as heartbreaking as they are inspiring. Sterling is bringing the heart and soul of a combat veteran to the Texas Music Scene.

June 30th - The Clutch Kings

Rock / Classic Rock

The Clutch Kings Website

The Clutch Kings

one of Austin’s most versatile rock bands, The Clutch Kings are everything the band’s name suggests. They pack the big Texas rock sound in the classic 2 guitars, bass and drums format. Upfront vocals, slippery blues rock guitar runs, chugging bass grooves, and thundering drums are the order of the day here.

The band was formed in 2011 when longtime friends Kory Brown (lead guitarist for the Bitter Angels) and Michael Tarsha (bass guitarist for AudioLight) were playing the same bill and noticed that the opening band had cancelled. Not wanting to let the audience or club owner down, Kory and Michael put together a quick 45 minute set within just a few days, called in a favor one of their favorite drummers Ben Rodriguez and named themselves The Clutch Kings. What started out as a challenge and one time gig to play some of their favorite cover tunes quickly turned into more than they expected when the club asked them back to headline more shows. More clubs caught the Clutch Kings vibe and gigs started to pile up.

The next major event in The Clutch Kings history occurred when legendary blues guitarist Hans Alehag (formerly of the Billy Joe Shaver band) started sitting in at gigs and their local jam sessions. Hans provides the perfect balance for the band with his soaring British Blues lead guitar lines.

With a full line up audiences began asking for more and more shows and the band quickly moved into writing and recording mode and what emerged were the first batch of Clutch Kings originals. Songs that allow them to explore their Texas roots with titles like “Straight to Your Soul”, “Shackles and Bones”, and “Empty Like You.”

The Clutch Kings continue on to this day juggling a healthy mix of gigs, studio work, benefit shows, UT Texas tailgate performances and of course private parties. Look for their first EP out later this year.

July 21st - Midnight River Choir

Texas Grove

Midnight River Choir Website

Midnight River Choir

The story of Midnight River Choir is proof that sometimes great bands just happen. One night, four strangers ended up on a late night float trip down the Guadalupe River. As they made their way down the river singing songs, the beautiful harmonies floated into the heads of sleeping campers. The next morning, the boys overheard a man telling a friend that he was “awakened by a midnight river choir.” That was all it took. Eric Middleton (lead singer and guitarist), Justin Nelson (lead guitarist), Jeromy Yager (former bassist), and Mitchell Pyeatt (drummer), realized the magic of their combined talents and began writing and performing together under that River-God given name.

The formation of Midnight River Choir was nothing short of a force of nature that now translates seamlessly during their live shows. This band needs no labels or comparisons. Their music speaks volumes about who and what they are. Their lives have been woven together by a strong thread of energy both on and off stage. That energy is raw and natural and soaked up from the earth through their bare feet. They believe that what you get is what you give and they give everything they have to their crowds. When that kind of energy lands back at the feet of the boys it is something of supreme intensity. And no one ever forgets it.
